The group who is made up of Nick Tozzo (drummer and percussionist), Nicolas Sanchez (bassist), and Mauro Lopez (guitarist) craft a genre-blending sound that drifts between the lush jungles of Colombia, the palm-lined streets of 1960s coastal Mexico, and the dusty cantinas of West Texas.Sanchezs Colombian roots, growing up listening to his parents beloved salsa and cumbia; Lopezs parents Mexican and American discography, which spanned from traditional Tejano to improvised jazz; and Tozzos love for jazz and salsa music, the latter stemming from his college years, leading him to study and live in Colombia to experience music greats first-handedly. All of this, paired with their undeniable chemistry and meshed with their now hometown Austins innovative creative sounds has led them to create the unique sonic movement that is The Animeros, a name inspired by Colombian shamans who would usher lost souls to their peace.Their journey took an unexpected turn when their music reached the ears of Dan Auerbach, the Grammy Award winning producer, songwriter, and frontman of The Black Keys. The Breaks brings together guitarist Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds), drummer Stanton Moore (Galactic), and organist Robert Walter (The Greyboy Allstars)three musicians whose collective groove has shaped the sound of contemporary funk for over two decades.Rooted in the tradition of late-60s organ trios and hard-hitting boogaloo, The Breaks pushes the sound forward with deep-pocket rhythms, tight arrangements, and fearless improvisation. Eddie Roberts sharp, melodic guitar work dances effortlessly over Stanton Moores explosive New Orleans-infused drum grooves, while Robert Walters signature Hammond organ tones tie it all together with grit and soul.Between them, theyve logged countless tours, recorded landmark albums, and collaborated with a whos-who of the modern jam, funk, and jazz worlds. But in The Breaks, the chemistry feels spontaneousthree kindred spirits locking into a groove and letting it ride. From sweaty club sets to major festival stages, The Breaks deliver a sound thats both deeply rooted and constantly evolvinga raw, joyful celebration of rhythm and musical conversation.

The band has continued to evolve, mixing in their own originals alongside twisted acoustic reimaginings of contemporary pop hits such as Lourde's "Royals" and cult classics such as Motรยถrhead's "Ace of Spades." Coffee Zombie Collective takes the songs you love, or love to hate, and weaves them into medlies, or upside-down interpretations that always leaves audiences smiling. The band's high-energy stage performances whip audiences into a sing-along dance frenzy. The repeated on-stage mantra is "If you know the words, sing along. If you don't know the words, sing louder!" If you're at the show, you're part of the collective, and highly encouraged to contribute in the frisky, sweaty, ad-libbed sound explosion that is Coffee Zombie Collective. Moe's Alley presents the return of the mysterious allstar funk and soul jazz band Dusk Dept.! Thursday, October 22, 2026 Doors: 7pm // Show: 8pm $20 in advance // $25 day of the show 21+ DUSK DEPT. No names. No faces. Just sound. Dusk Dept. is a seven-piece collective emerging from the deep corners of the modern funk underground...a shadowy convergence of musicians whose fingerprints can be found on the grooves of Ghost-Note, Dumpstaphunk, Snarky Puppy, Daryl Johns, and other heavy hitters in the lineage of rhythm. Formed under the dim hum of late-night sessions and unmarked studio doors, Dusk Dept. keeps its members hidden beneath black hoods, trading ego for atmosphere, and identity for collective pulse. Onstage, the robes blur every boundary: between player and audience, between band and ritual, between now and the fever-dream memory of some after-hours sermon you can't quite recall. Their debut, a self-titled album arriving in May 2026 on Ear Up Records (founded by Jeff Coffin of the Dave Matthews Band), sounds like the meeting point of the sacred and the filthy; analog funk baptized in mystery. Seven players. Seven voices. One department in charge of the night shift. Dusk Dept. doesn't announce itself. It appears... a flicker of brass, a pulse of bass, a blur of motion under dim lights. Then it's gone, leaving behind only sweat, echo, and questions.

Ten albums is a lot for any artist, let alone an indie artist who colored outside the lines, so to speak, LB says. Im just appreciative there was always somehow a path for me, no matter how impossible it seemed either on paper or in practice. As the first Asian-American to release a greatest hits compilation, hes pumped out multiple smash singles across four official studio albums. From Stop Complaining to Callin Out and I Like It, I Love It and I Changed My Mind, his material has always retained a musically eclectic feel.

On Parlor Greens debut LP In Green We Dream, they announced their existence boldly to the welcoming arms of funky instrumental fans around the world. Now, two years later, theyre back to up the ante. Three true masters of their respective crafts: Tim Carman (formerly of GA-20) on drums, Jimmy James (True Loves) on guitar, and Adam Scone (Scone Cash Players, The Sugarman 3) on organ. Seasoned and soulful pros coming together to make infectiously funky instrumental jams.Parlor Greens are truly in top form: tour tight and more confident than ever in who they are and where theyre going. The albums opener, Eat Your Greens, kicks the doors off with a Charles Earland-inspired four on the floor beat, with Jimmy and Scone driving the tune down the tracks like an overloaded freight train, it simply cannot be stopped. On Red Dog, the group channels the absolute heaviest shade of early Rs crunchy guitar paving the way for both he and Scone to take scorching solos. Lions Mane shows a slightly more sophisticated side of the trio, with nods to one of Scones organ mentors, the incomparable Dr. Lonnie Smith. Not to be outdone by his bandmates, Tim Carman shows off why he plays the best shuffle this side of the Mississippi on Letter To Brother Ben, a gospel-tinged shuffler.

The result is a singular interpretation of American roots music that blurs the borders between genre and geography, fusing the influence of the Rocky Mountains with the traditions of the Appalachians. Driven forward by drums, sharp songwriting, and the chemistry of good friends and musical brothers whove shared countless hours on stage, Clay Street Units music doesnt just nod to the bands influences; it reshapes them into something new. With their debut album on the horizon, Clay Street Unit are staking their claim as torchbearers of something both fresh and familiar, nodding to the foundations of American music while sharpening their own progressive edge.

Join us at Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos to celebrate the opening of two Visualizing Abolition exhibitions: Visions From Within: Women of Resilience , a new exhibition of art curated by Elizabeth Lozano and Anthony Alejandrez for the Visualizing Abolition Transition Fellowship Program, and Elevar la Cultura , a 22-foot public sculpture by artist and two-time Right of Return Fellow Victor โMarka27โ Quiรฑonez. The opening will feature panel discussions by currently and formerly incarcerated artists and organizers, remarks by artist Victor โMarka27โ Quiรฑonez, low riders, live entertainment, free food, and more. Visions From Within: Women of Resilience features newly commissioned paintings, drawings, and works in other mediums by people currently incarcerated in the two womenโs facilities in California, Central California Facility for Women and California Institute for Women. The artists included in the show differently illuminate how they cultivate resilienceโmaintaining a sense of self and purposeโin circumstances designed to perpetuate harm. โArt, poetry, gardening and other ways of tapping into my creativity was essential to my own state of mind during my own thirty years of incarceration,โ explains co-curator Elizabeth Lozano. โI wanted to provide others an outlet to express their imaginations, while they continue their journeys to also get free.โ Elevar la Cultura , an immersive sculptural installation featuring a twenty-two-foot-tall pyramid built from ice coolers adorned with ancestral textiles, sacred symbols, and mural work will be on view at Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos (1817 Soquel) November 7, 2026- March 7, 2027. As Quiรฑonez explains, this sculpture epitomizes the contradictions of livingโand laboringโas an immigrant in the United States: โMost people see the cooler as a tool for leisureโฆfor barbecues, tailgating, and celebrations. But for immigrant communities, the cooler is a tool and symbol for opportunity and independence. In every major city, you see families

From the unmistakeable primal screams of August Young, to the majestic, incendiary and inspired guitar work of Joshua Cuevas, to the extraordinarily mesmerizing rhythm section of Cody Tarbell and Alexis Angel, this band proves why they are more than just a tribute, but the dawning of a new era of contained chaos, sonic fusion and cosmic energy that will leave fans truly in awe of what they are witnessing before their very eyes. This isnt a typical tribute band built soley on knowing a catalog of music, but four musicians who play off of and with each other to create a unique performance each night, just as Led Zeppelin did. Leaving no detail unattended, from the stage setup built upon the same exact equipment used by Led Zeppelin down to the spontaneous energy of the songs, the Legend Zeppelin show is truly the only thing today that can be compared to actually seeing Led Zeppelin live in their time.

Stepping outside the United States was less a retreat than a shift in perspective, creating distance to recognize a new sound that had been slowly taking shape among them. im DADA quickly revealed its character: more propulsive, more candid, and their most structurally deliberate work to date.Working alongside experimental duo Lorelle Meets the Obsolete at their studio El Derrumbe the sessions folded community into the album, though its emotional core had already formed over months of pre-production. Half of Holy Wave is Mexican, with roots in the El Paso border region, so recording in Ensenada felt intuitive and relaxed. Joo Joo Ashworth, mixing engineer and longtime friend, also provided a pivotal presence helping crystallize the albums rhythmic language and subtly expanding the bands sound. The songs began reflecting conversations about fatherhood and partnership, breakups and estrangement, the queasy acceleration of AI, and what it means to remain present and principled while the world lurches unpredictably forward

But the inspiration for the song dates back to the time Roger went to Taipei, Taiwan, as a college student to teach English during the day and busk with his guitar at night for money.Today, as Clyne has just released his 11th studio album, he continues to transform his life experiences, inspirations, observations and his own muses into timeless music. And whether hes wearing his Converse high tops, boots or sandals, Clynes blend of punk rock, americana, indie-pop and mariachi influences have made him, drummer PH Naffah, guitarist Jim Dalton and bassist Nick Scropos collectively known as Roger Clyne one of Americas best live rock-n-roll bands.Starting with the seminal Tempe quartet, The Refreshments, Clyne and Naffah put the fun in rock & roll during the 90s grunge era with a sense of humor. They also started what would become a trademark sound on all future albums by adding mariachi horns, something Clyne was influenced by while in college studying Cultural Anthropology with an ethnography study of mariachis during a three-month Spanish-immersion stay with a local family in Ensenada, Mexico.

Spencer first made his name in the mid-80s with combative noise merchants Pussy Galore (best heard on the 1987 album Right Now!), whose raw, purposefully off-putting style and deliberately offensive lyrics made them one of the most polarizing bands of the day. After Pussy Galores breakup, Spencer launched the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, whose frantic but wildly energetic style mixed elements of punk, Rs approach was easily recognizable, he was able to fuse his ideas with a variety of collaborators, including the raw Rs Spencer Sings the Hits, and then by launching a new band, Jon Spencer s Spencer Gets It Lit. Spencer teamed up with the bassist and drummer of the Bobby Lees for his third solo effort, 2024s Sick of Being Sick!

An artist entering his staggering fourth decade writing and performing music that weaves in and out of seminal pop-punk, alt-country, metal, and a fascinating indie folk-prog hybrid, Chad Price has made the most of his time. All those miles and artistic transformations have now led to the welcome arrival of a new project. Chad Price Peace Coalition certainly delivers Priceโs signature rough-hewn vulnerability and also kicks up some sublime musical moments that, yes, feel distinctly inspired by prog giants like Jethro Tull and Yes. Opener โFAWNโ may have crunchy guitars and throbbing Americana tremolo, but the twinkling Fripp-ish guitars and unpredictable, lilting melody signal that this is yet another artistic detour for Price. The subsequent songs flash artifacts from Chadโs other musical identities, but Peace Coalition feels like thrilling, new terrain. Thereโs โRainbow,โ a desolate transmission picked up on a dizzy Leslie speaker, and the low-key, dusty rock opera of โSunflower,โ with its jarring harmonic shifts. โTongueโ is a wonderful slow-burner that skirts Priceโs alt-country bona-fides before blossoming into cathartic sheets of sound. Deep on side two, โAMโ nudges up the tempo a bit, but instead of retreating into basic rock and roll, it coils into a menacing circular repeating pattern, threes over foursโor maybe vice versa. Chad Price Peace Coalition's A Perfect Pearl is a distinctly compelling listen, and like the best rock albums, it provokes and ultimately rewards an attentive listener.

Leaving six studio albums in their path, they have been reinventing their music with every record. Spit from the heart of Americas Rust Belt, arising from a night of flophouse violence. Drifting across the states, they cemented their sound in Portland, OR and later in Los Angeles, CA, where they lived in abandoned buildings, squatter camps, storage units and shoebox apartments. In 2007, they left everything behind and spent the next four years living out of whatever vehicle would get them to the next town. Building upon their original sound of twanged-out, punk rock gutterbilly (Life of Sin 2004 and Gutterbillyblues 2007), they began picking up stray musicians along the way and adding to their sound; washboard, accordion, mandolin and banjo (Ghost of th Rails 2009 and 7 Devils 2011) creating a sound referred to as hobocore, gypsy-punk or americana-punk, while never being stuck in any one sound. Enter 2018 and The Goddamn Gallows have reinvented themselves once again with The Trial. From rockabilly, psychobilly and punk rock, to bluegrass and metal, The Trial infuses disparate sounds into a new strange recipe of seamless genre bending profundities. Chock full of impromptu antics of the shocking variety and hauntingly eclectic instrumentation, The Goddamn Gallows have made legions of fans with their legendary, live shows. With the dual vocals of Neville and Lindell, matched with the Galactic rhythm section, the band quickly realized, We are on to something!. The band has played during every Jazz Fest since its inception. This inception took place at the tiny smokey Dragons Den Bar, hence the name Dragon Smoke. The music centers around Lindells blue-eyed soul, Nevilles funk and Rs groove. Besides annual trips to the West Coast the past 15 years, and a 2013 trip to the East Coast, this band has been strickly playing around New Orleans, LA. With everyone in the band being a leader in their own, it is a rarity to get this band together. And when it does, it shows that these guys are really having FUN! From the interplay and communication between the members, you would think that Dragon Smoke has been touring continually for years.Dragon Smoke is looking towards the future, with plans to write and record and to do more touring outside of New Orleans. On The Mirror, the artists fourth solo record and second album released by 4AD, theres a tender power, countered by immutable vulnerability. With an uncanny curiosity, Meek conjures twin worlds to reveal the uniqueness in the mundane. Inviting in reflection as collaborator and demon as friend, The Mirror doesnt seek to know but to ask, looking to the shape of a question rather than the illusion of its answer.Meek grew up in Wimberley, Texas. The grandson of a Shakespearean scholar grandmother and Faulkner scholar grandfather; the son of a child psychologist mother and glass sculptor father; and teenage protege to an old guard of mystic Texas songwriters and musicians, outlaw poets, acid hillbilly jazzers, and gutbucket guitarists. Meeks first gig was at thirteen, playing rhythm for the Memphis bluesman Brandon Gist, kicking Gists old amp when it would short out on stage. The artist went on to cut his teeth playing Manouche, Romanian waltzes, ragtime, western swing, rock and roll, and his own songs in bars, icehouses, square dances, pie socials, cowgirl kabuki theaters, fire dances, and acrobat squats in high desert mission churches. He moved to Boston to study jazz, and quickly found community in other young jazz musicians who really just wanted to write songs and play rock and roll at house shows. Later, he moved to New York where he met Adrianne Lenker. The two lived in a van while singing their songs across the country befor

Started in 2000, this neighborhood market has grown to be a weekly event that is loved and depended on by the communities of Live Oak, Pleasure Point and Capitola. Here the atmosphere is bumping with families, cyclists, beach goers, locals, visitors, the young and the old. Shoppers find an excellent selection of organic produce from regional farms. The tables are stacked high with tree-ripened fruits, greens, fresh bread, pastries, nuts and legumes, sustainable seafood, pasture-raised organic meats and seasonal flowers. Many visitors spend hours at the market, filling their bags with berries, chicories and bagels โ then moving onto a unique meal from one of the accomplished cooks that sell at the market. Sunday brunch offerings include traditional Michoacan Mexican dishes, gyoza, savory and sweet crepes and farm-driven meals that spotlight the harvest in clean, creative and bright arrangements. Watsonville-based Hidden Fortress Coffee provides that hot, comforting cup of goodness that brings us back to the simple pleasures of life. This is your Sunday destination.
