Five weekly sessions starting Oct 8 - Nov 5. Join us in exploring this collection of simple and practical methods of transforming habits and emotional states that no longer serve us. Many cultures have recognized the importance of the five elements and have used them as a key to unlocking self-mastery, healing, and balancing disruptive circumstances. Join Dawa Drakpa in this simple program to examine the major qualities of the element, looking at how we limit or nourish each, and transform our minds in the process for greater balance and awareness. This course is a hands-on, integrative experience using journaling and group discussion. Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche tasked an international group of psychologists, writers, teachers and artists to create a platform that offers a suite of flexible tools to bolster our own innate creativity and resilience and also to transform difficulties in a truly unique way. Naljor Dawa Drakpa was one of the first western students of the great Tibetan lamas Penor Rinpoche, Gangteng Rinpoche of Bhutan, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, and Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche. He is the founder of the Jang Ter Cho Gar, the Northern Treasures Buddhist Society.
Ben Flocks is a saxophonist and storyteller with a clear, warm, and purposeful voice. A veteran performer and educator, Flocks has been lucky to play with luminaries in jazz and beyond, including Dave Brubeck, Patrice Rushen, Antonio Sanchez, and Jumaane Smith. His 2019 release Mask of the Muse features Flocks’ rendition of “Ebb Tide” which has been streamed more than twenty million times and went viral on TikTok. Growing up in the Santa Cruz mountains, Flocks witnessed lunar grandeur over the churning Pacific surf and filtered through redwood canopies. Following the advice of his elders, he spent over a decade living in New York City, learning from the masters and leading his own bands at the 55 Bar and Cornelia Street Cafe. Flocks is now grounded in Los Angeles where he balances performing with a full schedule teaching at Glendale Community College, Harvard-Westlake, and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. At its foundation, his latest album Moonshades is a trio exploration, acutely aware of the history of saxophone triumvirates led by Flocks’ heroes Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, and Joshua Redman, but concerned with an entirely different avenue, thanks to bandmates Garret Lang and Jay Bellerose. While those trios often relished dexterity and unrelenting momentum, Flocks and his compatriots linger in the openness and unhurried propulsion that comes so naturally to them. For Flocks, the moon is a powerful reminder of the unknowable and the spirit of searching. Flocks will be joined by Garret Lang on bass and Jay Bellerose on drums for this special hometown album release performance. Ben Flocks Website (Ticket Includes 5% City of Santa Cruz Admission Tax)

Bite Me returns upstairs above the Catalyst Club on Cat Alley Street in downtown Santa Cruz. 21 and over, no cover charge. On the Second Friday of September, the doors swing open once more for a nocturnal gathering of outsiders, romantics, night creatures, artists, and all manner of beautiful misfits. Come dressed to the nines—or better yet, dressed to cause a little trouble. There will be door prizes for best dressed, so do put on something suitably scandalous. Or don't. We are exceedingly welcoming. The evening commences before the revelry reaches full swing. Join us early for an evening of creativity, conversation, peculiar amusements, and wonderfully strange company. The Bite Me Salon 6:00 PM — Doors 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM — The Bite Me Salon A proper gathering of the peculiar sort, featuring: Deathrock Karaoke — 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM — In the Lounge In California, we once called dark music deathrock. At some point, the public imposed the word “goth” upon us. We remain unconvinced. Think punk rock karaoke for creatures of the night. Step into the lounge, take the microphone, and give the room something to remember. If there’s a particular tune you simply must belt out, send word ahead of time and we shall do our level best to have it ready. Goth Makeovers A little rouge, a little ruin, and perhaps the transformation you never knew you required. The Macabre Makers Faire Local artists, curious craftsmen, peculiar creations, and sundry oddities for those with an appreciation for the unusual. Goth Clothing Swap Bring along clothing, accessories, boots, and other splendid articles you'd like to pass along. Take home something new-to-you. Clear out the wardrobe, refresh the ensemble, and give some forgotten finery another night on the town. 7:00 PM — Complimentary Pizza for Guests Because even the most debauched among us must occasionally fortify ourselves. The Main Floor 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM — The Barbary Ghost — Opening Set 8:00 PM – 9:00 PM — Big Fun 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM — Konceptualizer — Live Multimedia Act A full multimedia performance synchronized to the music, bringing sound and spectacle together in one strange and immersive affair. 10:00 PM – 11:00 PM — SamSonic 11:00 PM – Midnight — The Barbary Ghost Midnight – 1:30 AM — Iron Fist from Death Guild / Thunderdome Expect an eclectic nocturnal cocktail of dark dance punk, goth, industrial, techno, deathrock, and whatever other wicked sounds strike the fancy of our musical conspirators. No solemn rules. No dreary conventions. Just good music, good company, and a dance floor waiting to get itself into trouble. Come early, stay late, meet new people, discover new music, and spend an evening amongst those who understand that the finest nights are rarely conducted according to respectable society's timetable. Bite Me is less a nightclub than a monthly gathering of beautiful misfits—a midnight salon for those who have always felt a little more at home beneath neon than sunlight. So powder your nose, straighten your collar, lace up those boots, and come join the revelry. The night is young. The respectable have gone home. Come early, stay late.

In the spring of 1895, Oscar Wilde was the most celebrated playwright in London — An Ideal Husband and The Importance of Being Earnest were both playing in the West End. By the end of May he was in prison, sentenced to two years' hard labor for "gross indecency". Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde tells the story of that crushing downfall: the libel suit Wilde brought against the Marquess of Queensberry — the father of his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas — and the two criminal trials that followed when the suit collapsed. He died in destitution three years later. Moisés Kaufman's play, first staged Off-Broadway in 1997, is created from the historical record: trial transcripts, letters, newspaper accounts, memoirs, and Wilde's own writings. The result is part courtroom drama, part Greek tragedy — a company of actors taking on dozens of roles to examine not just what happened to Wilde, but what his trials reveal about art, morality, celebrity, and the law. The questions the play raises were recognized and debated in 1895, were highly relevant in 1997 when the play was first produced, and resonate just as strongly today when questions of identity and gender are still contentious to the point of violence. Kaufman however goes beyond a simple moralistic story (as evidenced by the quote above, which he uses to frame his play). Wilde is extraordinary not only in his intellect and wit but also in his arrogance and disregard for so many people he uses in his pursuit of pleasure. Human nature in all its complexity is on full display here. Kaufman went on to write and direct The Laramie Project, one of the most performed plays in the American repertoire, exploring some of the same issues in a more contemporary context. Gross Indecency was his breakthrough though — named one of the year's best plays by Time, the New York Times, and many others. It remains his most theatrically daring work, confronting the relationship between societal norms and individual freedom, draw
SPAM New Media Festival launches it’s California edition of their annual festival with performances by interdisciplinary artist Jean Carla Rodea, collaborative duo Abram Stern & Dorothy R. Santos, and new Santa Cruz-based project EPOCH. Jean Carla Rodea Jean Carla Rodea is an interdisciplinary artist with a research-based practice, originally from Mexico City and currently based between San Francisco, CA, and Brooklyn, NY. Their work spans music, sound, vocality, performance, poetry, photography, video, and sculpture, moving fluidly between solo projects and collaborative, cross-disciplinary environments. They draw from shifting identities, immigration, ritual, performance, ecology, construction work, and improvisation, engaging deeply with time-based media and the diverse spaces where these interactions take place. A central focus of their practice is the exploration of critical socio-political issues, including the politics of the body, gender, memory, and imbalanced human relationships. They are particularly invested in how time is constructed through memory, and how those memories—whether embodied or embedded within spaces—are recorded, fragmented, and continually reconstructed. This investigation opens pathways for fiction and speculative dimensions to disrupt and challenge dominant narratives. Archival research is a recurring methodology in their work, encompassing both institutional and personal archives. From these materials, they craft speculative histories, responding to documents, physical traces, and spaces. In their engagement with the archive, they embody multiple performative roles: witness, observer, participant, and researcher, each inhabiting the temporary sites where events unfold. Dorothy R. This is the California edition of the annual SPAM New Media Festival. It will feature performances by interdisciplinary artist Jean Carla Rodea, duo Abram Stern & Dorothy R. Santa, and the new, local Santa Cruz-based project EPOCH. All of these artists mix traditions, media, and form together to create complex works of art. Jean Carla Rodea explores socio-political issues, such as gender, memory, relationships, and politics of the body. Dorothy R. Santos, Pd. D. and Abram Stern, Ph. D. are both artists and media scholars. They look at justice and experience. Not much is known about EPOCH, or rather what is known is uncertain. It is simply an experience of temporal fragments existing between moments. -Isabella Marie Sangaline; Good Times Santa Cruz

Throughout their storied forty-three-year history, the Yellowjackets have recorded twenty-six albums, received sixteen GRAMMY nominations (winning two), performed countless sold-out tours, and enjoyed worldwide critical acclaim and commercial success. The Yellowjackets formed in the late 1970s as the backup band for guitarist Robben Ford. They recorded their first album together in 1980. Since then, and with the addition of Bob Mintzer, the Yellowjackets have gained and maintained prominence as one of jazz’s most influential and loved groups. Over the years the band has undergone numerous lineup changes. Never failing to rise to the inevitable challenges of adjustment, the Yellowjackets – featuring Russell Ferrante on piano and synthesizers, Bob Mintzer on woodwinds & electronic wind instrument, Will Kennedy on drums and Dane Alderson on bass – have maintained an extraordinarily high quality of musicianship that is the rival of many but a surprise to no one who knows and appreciates the band and their music. Hailed by The New York Times as “a virtuosic performer in full command of her instrument and powers,” she is known in the international jazz world simply as ‘Somi.’ Her 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album made her the first African woman ever nominated in any of the GRAMMY jazz categories, as well as the first Rwandan or Ugandan ever nominated for a GRAMMY. Her last release, Zenzile: The Reimagination of Miriam Makeba, was a companion project to the critically acclaimed original musical Dreaming Zenzile that Somi also wrote and starred in as a tribute to the great South African singer and activist. Her highly anticipated forthcoming album, What Does It Take to Bloom?, will be released in August 2026. Somi is a recipient of two NAACP Image Awards and a Doris Duke Artist Award. Recently, she made her Broadway debut in the titular role of the TONY Award-winning play Jaja’s African Hair Braiding.

“Well at least nobody could ever accuse us of releasing too much music!” quips guitarist Greg Carmichael on the release of their latest EP The Empire of Lights, “but I think our fans know by now that we’re a little obsessive about only releasing music when we have something ready that we really love.” The four tracks on their latest release visit familiar themes for longtime fans, from the western shuffle of “8,000 Miles” to the reggae flavours of “Alisio”, the upbeat joy of “Back to Back” to the laid back groove of “Other People”. “We hope there’s something here for everyone,” says Miles Gilderdale, “we’re very lucky that over the years we’ve found fans that just get what we’re doing, so we can wear our influences on our sleeves and not have to try and fit into any one style.” With over thirty five years of recording and touring, the band’s longevity may be due in part to that spirit of never trying to fit in, but to just make music that they love, “I feel really grateful that we’ve been on such a long journey with our fans and they’re still there with us.” Carmichael says, “We talk after shows and it’s always such an honor to hear the stories of how our music has been the soundtrack to so many people’s lives”

One of the finest B&W sci-fi / horror films of the 1950s (a great decade for them in general), THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT also launched Hammer Films into the stratosphere as the UK’s premiere genre producers. Adapted from a BBC TV serial by the great writer Nigel Kneale and expertly directed by the legendary Val Guest (THE DAY THE EARTH CAUGHT FIRE), THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT was followed by three equally brilliant sequels and turned Professor Bernard Quatermass into one of Britain’s most iconic sci-fi heroes, next to Doctor Who! Dr. Marshall Leicester will appear at the screening to discuss THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Bonnie Raitt is returning to Santa Cruz! Fans can expect a setlist that balances her “present-day brilliance” from Just Like That… with timeless classics like “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” “Something to Talk About,” and “Angel from Montgomery”. Reviewers have praised her enduring vocal power and legendary slide guitar skills. Known for her unique blend of blues, rock, folk, and R&B. A 13-time Grammy winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she gained fame for her soulful voice and masterful bottleneck slide guitar skills, breaking barriers for women in blues-rock.

Join us on October 17 as we come together to get out the early vote and say it loud: NO THRONES. NO CROWNS. NO KINGS. And join us from now until the mid-terms to help get out the early vote and protect our elections! On October 17: We will rally briefly on the courthouse steps (701 Ocean Street), provide opportunities for all No Kings participants to sign up to defend this election, and drop our ballots in the County’s secure ballot drop box in a joyful celebration of voting rights! We will then fire up our voter outreach by lining Ocean Street with signs, music, giant puppets, and artwork. Bring signs that encourage early voting, standing up for democracy, and voter participation. NOW is the time for each of us to do what we can to get out the vote, encourage people to vote early, and protect this election from sabotage by the Trump regime. The focus of No Kings: Vote Early is motivating people to cast their ballots before Election Day. That means that No Kings: Vote Early starts on the day ballots are mailed to registered voters – October 5 in California – and continues through Election Day. ISCC is also organizing events to encourage early voting starting the first week of October. Check our website, social media or newsletter for updates! A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

Williams has recorded soundtracks for movies including; David Lynch’s Twin Peaks and Spike Lee’s Clockers. In 2004, Williams celebrated the release of Griot Liberte featuring Stefon Harris, George Colligan, and Lenny White. Kevin Convey, of the Boston Herald, wrote, “Just when you thought nobody made the kind of jazz album that depends more on class, beauty, chops and communication than on concepts and star value, along comes bassist Buster Williams’ Griot Liberte. It’s enough to restore your faith in the art form.” In 2006, Williams performed with the Mary Lou Williams Collective on the critically acclaimed album The Zodiac Suite. In 2007, Williams recorded a trio date with the late John Hicks. Released as On the Wings of an Eagle, the album would be Hicks’ last recording. The Buster Williams Trio will feature Williams on bass, George Colligan on piano, and Domo Branch on drums. Buster Williams Website (Ticket Includes 5% City of Santa Cruz Admission Tax)

In this workshop, we will put aside our power supplies and look closely at the unique characteristics of so-called "passive" electronic components. Transformers, capacitors, diodes, inductors, and others will be examined for their abilities to uniquely modify audio signals. As we establish basic approaches for passive mixing, filtering and clipping, we will surreptitiously introduce simple, albeit active, amplification to look at the great range of possibilities afforded by just a little gain. In conclusion, we'll take a look at Ralph Jones' "Star Networks at the Singing Point", written for arrays of electrical junk thrown in feedback configurations. Level: Introductory. Open to guests of all ages and skill levels. Required Materials: Some junk will be provided, but feel free to bring any strange-looking electronics you've pulled out of the trash. This monthly series of writing workshops in Evergreen Cemetery is facilitated by local poet Gabriel Kittle-Cervine. Rite Life is a workshop that blends the act of automatic writing, with our individual practices of ancestor veneration, to confront that which haunts us, and to celebrate that which allows us to live. The workshop was born in 2016 from the vision of a profound poet and spiritual teacher named Honeysun, just a couple of years before she passed beyond this life. Her initial concept for the Rite Life workshop is preserved in the way it's practiced today; still facilitated by Gabe, her friend and pupil, alongside a bright circle of local writers and practitioners of craft. Fonville x Fribush is the brand new musical collaboration from acclaimed drummer Corey Fonville (Butcher Brown) and in-demand organist Sam Fribush. Like a hip-hop link up from the 90s, the pair’s collective ear, musical talents, and friendship pushes the limits of the R&B organ trio sound into a youthful, tasty style of ‘blue collar jazz.’ Fonville x Fribush features a rotating cast of guitarists in the studio, including Charlie Hunter, Alan Good Parker and Morgan Burrs. Songs like “I Couldn’t Love You More” and “Blue Chips” immerse audiences in Atlantic Coast soundscapes of their hometown roots in North Carolina and Virginia. In 2026, they released their debut Fonville x Fribush EP, R&B Organ Trio, featuring Charlie Hunter.

Born in Oakland, California in 1950, Susan Muscarella began playing the piano when she was eight years old. Predisposed to improvising, she was encouraged by her first teacher to play the music she loved – jazz. Muscarella made the decision to become a professional musician while still in high school. In 1975, she was a composition major at UC Berkeley when UC Jazz Ensembles invited her to join its program’s faculty. The extracurricular program’s students inspired Muscarella to expand the curriculum into a bona fide program of study. She was promoted to Director in 1984, and, for the next five years, grew the program’s enrollment, expanded its curriculum and produced the largest annual collegiate jazz festival in the country – the Pacific Coast Collegiate Jazz Festival. The Piano Trios of Bud Powell, Bill Evans & Keith Jarrett will explore the artistry and unique qualities of some of jazz’s most beloved piano trios. Can’t make it in-person? You can stream it! Join the Center for the Middle East and North Africa for a reading and talk with award-winning poet and translator Fady Joudah. In Exhibit G: Fady Joudah writes from the split perspective of a Palestinian American physician caring for the sick while watching the destruction of Gaza from the United States, a nation complicit in that destruction. He locates the paradox of his position everywhere: in the seed a sparrow eats from his proffered hand; in his writing in English, the oppressor’s language; in the faces of Palestinian children receiving meals from aid kitchens—a glimpse into what his life could have been, and what is being lost in a war disproportionately impacting children and their families. Throughout the book, beauty insists on its survival not only through the Palestinian people, but also through the nonhuman world in which he takes occasional refuge from the devastation that humanity brings upon itself. Fady Joudah is the author of […] (2024), a finalist for the National Book Award and winner of the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, and Exhibit G (2026). His other poetic works include: The Earth in the Attic (2008) ; Alight (2013); Textu (2014), a book-long sequence of short poems whose meter is based on cellphone character count; Footnotes in the Order of Disappearance (2018); and Tethered to Stars (2021). He has translated several collections of poetry from the Arabic and is the co-editor and co-founder of the Etel Adnan Poetry Prize. He was a winner of the Yale Series of Younger Poets competition and has received the Jackson Poetry Prize, a PEN award, a Banipal/Times Literary Supplement prize from the UK, the Griffin Poetry Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the Arab American Book Award. He lives in Houston with his wife and kids where he practices internal medicine. Presented by the Center for the Middle East and North Africa and co-sponsored by the Humanities Institute, the Peggy and Jack Baskin Foundation Presidential Chair in Feminist Studies, and P

Eternities is an intuitive collaboration between bass clarinetist Katie Porter and sound artist Bob Bellerue. Their work is inspired by deep presence, resonant feedback, melodic drone, and overtone magic, in the fluid realm between intention and indeterminacy. For this special event, Katie and Bob present solo works followed by a collaborative performance to close out the evening. About the Artists Katie Porter is a clarinetist, performer/composer, writer, and artist. Her work is rooted in decades of experimental and community performance practices, where she explores how music can exist almost like landscapes or relationships, slowly altering our ability to perceive change, time, and space. Devoted to collaboration, Katie performs as Phase to Phase (with Lucio Capece), Eternities (with Bob Bellerue), MUD (with Anne Penders), MOONS (with Christine Tavolacci, Laura Cetilia, and Judith Berkson), and premiered works by many living composers including Phill Niblock, Sarah Hennies, Tristan Perich, Christian Wolff, Michael Pisaro, Eva-Maria Houben, and Teodora Stepancic. Katie's writings are published in Sound American, and her recent creative work can be heard in Brooklyn's ISSUE Project Room archive, where she was 2024 Artist-in-Residence. Bob Bellerue is a sound artist, experimental musician, curator, audio engineer and technical director based in Ridgewood NY. Since 1987 he has been involved in a wide range of sonic activities - experimental music, sound art, noise, junk metal percussion ensembles, hippie punk bands, soundtracks for dance/ theater/ video/ performance art, and sound / video installations. Bob's electronic sound work is focused on resonant feedback systems, using amplified instruments, objects, and spaces, in combination with electronics, field recordings, and software written in the Supercollider audio synthesis programming language. “What I do is instinctive, quiet and naturalistic. I want to document unobtrusively. I want to see who people really are. I frame up the situation and then I push the button. I always want it to look exactly the way it looks to me.” – Henry Diltz Henry Diltz‘s work as an iconic photographer in the 1960s and 1970s is celebrated for his unique “fly on the wall” style portraits and his ability to capture intimate moments with some of the world’s most influential musicians. Behind the Lens is a slideshow and storytelling experience – photographs that made music history and the stories by the man that took them. “I was a musician before I was a photographer,” says Diltz. “So I started out photographing my friends who then all happened to become famous!” Diltz was the official photographer at the historic Woodstock festival in 1969, 1994, and 1999. He has shot over 250 album covers and continues to document the music scene in Southern California. Diltz has recently been recognized with Lifetime Achievement Awards from the GRAMMYs, the Lucie’s, the International Photography Hall of Fame, Abbey Road Studios, & the American Society of Photographers. “Henry Diltz represents the pinnacle of our entire generation of music and musicians—a true hero to all of us who’ve known and worked with him through the decades. Since arriving in Los Angeles in 1972, we’ve been fortunate to call him a dear friend and collaborator on many of our album projects, after first admiring his extraordinary work capturing so many of our favorite artists. Now, through his narrated slideshow presentations, Henry brings that history to life in an unforgettable way. If you have the opportunity to see one, you’ll be taken on an incredible journey—it’s a must-see event. Don’t miss it.” — Dewey Bunnell & Gerry Beckley of America

Bookshop Santa Cruz and The Humanities Institute present author Matt O’Hara for a reading and signing of The Flying Death —A dramatic tale of explorers of the 1930s racing to find and harvest a poisonous Amazon vine, and how their work plundered local tribes and spurred the invention of new medicines. Your RSVP helps us plan for your arrival and keep in touch with any changes. Thank you for registering! In the fall of 1938, a young, frail American explorer set off down a river in the western Amazon in search of curare, a poison he thought might save his life. Richard Gill had learned that local tribes used curare-laced blow darts to kill animals, but it was also potentially a cure for many ailments, including his own. He also thought he could make a fortune by connecting the knowledge of two worlds. Obsessed with curare, he raced to make deals with Indigenous poison masters in the Amazon and pharmaceutical companies back home, even as his Russian-born rival Boris Krukoff sought to do the same. In The Flying Death , the historian Matt O’Hara asks who and what we are willing to sacrifice in the name of discovery and profit. O’Hara brings to life Gill’s epic quest, a stranger-than-fiction true story that moves from unexplored territory in the Amazon to rogue medical trials and cutthroat corporate boardrooms in the United States. Navigating treacherous terrain and politics, Gill and Krukoff successfully created a veritable curare-industrial complex, as the plant became a key element in shock therapy, transformed surgery in the United States and across the globe, and eventually led to a Nobel Prize. The Flying Death offers a thrilling ride across Indigenous knowledge, scientific exploration, and exploitation, unearthing a story of discovery that poses searching questions about the price of progress, who pays it, and who gets credit. Matt O’Hara is a professor of history at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is the award-winning author of many journal articles a

Learn more at www.blankmetafour.com or follow @unclegabe831 on Instagram. All ages welcome, and we'll be there rain or shine-see y'all in the cemetery!

Beginning in 2026, Housing Matters presents Picture This: Belonging Builds Community, a quarterly storytelling and conversation series exploring belonging, connection, and community care in Santa Cruz County. Each event opens with a featured storyteller sharing a personal experience of belonging and what it means to feel seen, supported, and included. A local community partner then joins for a facilitated discussion on how belonging shows up in practice and how inclusive spaces are built across our County. The evening concludes with small-group reflection and a shared invitation to take one meaningful action toward a more connected community.
Isaiah Sharkey stands at the confluence of modern soul, jazz, R&B, and Black American guitar tradition, carrying forward a lineage that links George Benson, Curtis Mayfield, Wes Montgomery, and Jimi Hendrix, while forging a vocabulary entirely his own. A GRAMMY award-winning guitarist, vocalist, composer, and producer, Sharkey has become one of the most respected musicians of his generation – celebrated for his sophisticated harmonic sensibility, unmistakable tone, and ability to shape-shift effortlessly between musical worlds. Sharkey’s guitar work on D’Angelo’s landmark album Black Messiah earned him a GRAMMY Award and a position among the most innovative guitarists shaping contemporary Black music. As a solo artist, Sharkey has developed a distinctive, emotionally resonant sound that blends deep-pocket groove, virtuosic improvisation, and songwriter-driven storytelling. His latest album, RED, introduced audiences to his modern fusion of soul, R&B, jazz, and guitar-based narrative. His follow-up projects – each expanding his sonic palette – solidify his standing as an artist capable of speaking fluently to instrumental purists and mainstream audiences alike. His forthcoming releases explore new integrations of analog and electronic texture, guitar-forward harmonic architecture, and songwriting rooted in personal truth. Whether performing his own music or elevating the work of others, Sharkey brings the same signature qualities: precision, warmth, spirituality, and an unshakeable sense of groove.

1970’s Jazz-Rock Revue If you wish the era of 1970’s jazz-rock and progressive rock never ended, then this is the band for you! Joshua Cedar (guitar) transcribed and charted some of the most amazing (not to mention insanely difficult) music of this incredible era and — perhaps even more amazing — found musicians who can play it! Joshua assembled local touring and studio musicians to perform original instrumental arrangements of some of the greatest 1970’s era jazz-rock and prog rock. So, join us in the celebration of the music of Rush, Genesis, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Dregs, Jeff Beck, Jean-Luc Ponty, Bruford, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, and even a medley of some of the more progressive Led Zeppelin tunes.

The Expendables enjoyed a laid-back lifestyle growing up in Santa Cruz, CA; surfing, skating, partying, and playing music were commonplace. Since 1997, The Expendables have staked their claim in the California surf/rock genre by headlining venues from coast to coast. Blending Reggae, Punk Rock, and 80s style dueling guitar solos, The Expendables have made heads turn and floors shake for years. The band consists of four longtime friends: Geoff Weers (Guitar and Vocals), Adam Patterson (Drums and Vocals), Raul Bianchi (Lead Guitar) and Ryan DeMars (Bass). The first seven years of their career was fueled with three full-length, completely independent releases. No Time To Worry (2000), Open Container (2001), and Gettin’ Filthy (2004), would bring in a combined total of over 40,000 units sold with no physical distribution and no record label. While touring and supporting their album, Gettin’ Filthy, The Expendables would share the stage with Slightly Stoopid and catch the attention of founders and front men Kyle McDonald and Miles Doughty. In 2007 Slightly Stoopid formed their own independent label, Stoopid Records, and signed The Expendables for the label’s first non-Stoopid release, which was The Expendables self-titled. Released in September 2007, the album would be accepted as an instant classic by fans and received rave reviews from critics. The band continued supporting the album with hundreds of shows over the next two years, gaining fans around the world, and respect from the bands that influenced them. Early 2009 The Expendables toured relentlessly. Within a few short months, they hit the road with NOFX, Less Than Jake, Pennywise, and Pepper. In case that was not enough, The Expendables were honored to join 311 on their Summer Unity amphitheater tour, rocking huge stages, and opening new doors for the band. The boys decided idle time was not an option after the conclusion of their tour with 311, so they went straight in to the studio to begin recording their nex

The Bad Plus are the ultimate originals, and this Farewell Tour features the band’s final performances, celebrating their twenty-six years of musical collaboration and influence. A democratic unit with a clear vision and a refusal to conform to convention, for the past two decades The Bad Plus have played with spirit and adventure, made their own rules and done so with a bold sense of creativity and intent. Avoiding easy categorization, The Bad Plus has won critical acclaim and a legion of fans worldwide with their unique sound and flair for live performance. The Bad Plus continue to push boundaries as founding members Reid Anderson (bass) and Dave King (drums) embark on a new piano-less incarnation of the band with Ben Monder (guitar) and Chris Speed (tenor saxophone) – instigating a new wave of excitement and anticipation within the band that is re-energizing their sound and inspiration. The Bad Plus have constantly searched to bridge genres and techniques while exploring the infinite possibilities of exceptional musicians working in perfect sync.
