Connecting residents directly with local farms, the Felton Market is an essential part of the regional food system as well as a resource for nutritious organic foods and basic agricultural education.

Tuesdays, May through October — over 30 years running, and the second-oldest market in the county (started in 1987). Regional farms set up tents full of fresh produce, meats, eggs, artisanal bread, and seafood, connecting you straight to the people who grow your food. Run by SCCFM since 2009, with deep ties to Felton. The kind of market regulars call a second home.

Wednesdays, 1–5 pm, year-round. Our biggest and oldest market is a block off Pacific. Open since 1990, with farms that helped build the organic movement. Eat with the seasons: fruits, vegetables, flowers, and pasture-raised meats, plus some of the county's most diverse food stalls, naan and curry, Eritrean dishes, pupusas, crepes, and long-ferment breads. Every Saturday from late spring through fall, a circle of regional farms, local food businesses and makers set up their stands in Scotts Valley — 9 to 1, sun on the redwoods. It's been running since 2009 alongside the City of Scotts Valley, and it's grown into the kind of seasonal ritual you plan your weekend around. Come for the shopping, stay for the slowing down. The market doubles as a resource for nutritious food and agricultural education, and a gathering place for families, friends and neighbors — whether you're a weekly regular or just passing through the mountain town for the morning. Find it all amid the stalls: organic vegetables, fruits and herbs; pasture-raised chicken and duck eggs; flowers, artisanal meats, fresh bread and seafood; pastries; and ready-to-eat plates you can dig into right there with the music going.

Saturday mornings at Cabrillo College in Aptos, 8 to noon. A certified farmers' market with the week's fresh produce and plenty of free parking. Show up early and shop the good stuff first.

Monterey Bay Iris Society is having its annual iris rhizome sale next to the Red Apple Cafe. This is your chance to get some healthy iris rhizomes from the private gardens of the members of the Monterey Bay Iris Society. This annual sale is well-known for its large selection of tall bearded iris. The rhizomes are $5 each or 10 for $40. At the sale, expert iris growers will be on hand to help you with your selection and will have printed handouts on how to grow iris. The sale is popular so get there early to get the best selection. If you can't make this sale, they will be available on August 8th at the Aptos Farmers Market at Cabrillo College. They will also be available on August 15th at 2716 Mission Street in Santa Cruz next to the Santa Cruz Farmers Market.
