Taste the Difference: An Apple Tasting with Prevedelli Farms Think all apples taste more or less alike? One bite may change your mind. Join Prevedelli Farms for a delicious guided tasting at the Aptos Farmers Market celebrating the remarkable flavors, textures, and histories of apples grown right here in the Pajaro Valley. The Prevedelli family has been farming its Watsonville land for more than 80 years, growing an extraordinary collection of organic apples that includes familiar favorites alongside unusual and historic varieties rarely found in supermarkets. During this special tasting at the event booth, you’ll have the opportunity to sample several apples side by side and discover just how different one variety can be from another—from crisp and honey-sweet to bright and tart, spicy, aromatic, or wonderfully complex. You’ll also hear about the history of Prevedelli Farms and some of the apples once widely grown in Santa Cruz County, including varieties the family continues to cultivate in an effort to keep them from disappearing. Whether you’re searching for the perfect apple for snacking, baking a pie, making applesauce, or pairing with cheese, this is a wonderful opportunity to talk directly with the farmer and discover a new favorite. What to expect: • Meet Nick Prevedelli and learn about his family’s more than 80-year farming history • Taste a selection of organic apples grown at Prevedelli Farms • Compare the flavors, textures, sweetness, and tartness of different varieties • Discover unusual and heirloom apples seldom found in supermarkets • Learn which apples are especially good for fresh eating, baking, applesauce, and cheese boards • Hear the stories behind some of the farm’s historic and locally significant varieties • Get Nick’s tips for combining different apples to make an exceptional apple pie You may arrive thinking you already know your favorite apple—and leave with an entirely new one.
