Vaquero & Rancho Days Come Alive at the Castro Adobe! Saddle up for a colorful journey into California's Rancho era! Castro Adobe State Historic Park invites families to its FREE Vaquero & Rancho Days Open House on Saturday, November 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Discover the world of California's legendary vaqueros, whose horsemanship and roping traditions helped shape the American cowboy. Special guests, Cisco Jim and his horse Taza will help bring this heritage to life with cowboy music and Bob and Denise Gomez will entertain visitors with traditional songs in the garden. Children will have a chance to try their hand at traditional cattle roping with a lasso as well as use their artistic skills at the crafts table. At 11:30 a.m., enjoy the colorful costumes, lively music, and spirited dancing of the Alianza Ballet Folklórico Group from Watsonville's Alianza Elementary School in the famous Fandango Room. Explore the recently restored 176-year-old, two story Castro Adobe hacienda, once the centerpiece of Rancho San Andrés with knowledgeable docents, museum quality exhibits and beautiful historic garden. Bring a picnic and the family for a lively celebration of California's Rancho heritage! Parking is limited; advance reservations encouraged.
