NOTE: This class includes two sessions: 1 -4 p.m. on Saturday, November 7th, AND 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 8th . You must attend both to be cleared for woodshop use at Idea Fab Labs. Click here for class ticket: Eventbrite Class Description: Introduction to Wood Shop is a two-part course that will introduce you to all of the essential hand and power tools in the IFL woodshop. Students will learn and practice while making a stylish cutting board. This course includes basic and advanced operations on the table saw, woodworking joinery techniques, shaping wood with routers and hand tools, and wood surface preparation and finishing. No experience is necessary. You do not need to be an IFL member to take this class. Topics Covered: General Shop Safety Woodworking Joinery Wood Milling General Wood Processing Cross Cut, Rip Cut, Plane / Surface, Joint, Sand, Drive/Drill, Route/Mould/Shape Safe Tool Use Manual Hand Tools (Miter Saw, Hand Saw, Chisel, Screw Driver, Hammer) Automatic Hand Tools (Circular Saw, Drill, Palm Sander, Jigsaw, Router) Large Machinery (Table Saw, Chop Saw, Drill Press, Band Saw, Shaper, Belt Sanders) What to Bring: A water bottle and something comfortable to wear. Hair ties for long hair. Cost: $160 total for two sessions. Materials Required: None. Materials are included in class price. Prerequisites: 16 years of age and over please. Instructor Bio: Matt Berger is a longtime woodworking and maker and has been a member of Idea Fab Labs for more than a year where he builds woodworking projects, bends wood into sculpture and functional objects (including skateboards), and uses the laser cutter to create arts and crafts.
