Open House Tour at the New Puppetry Institute!

πŸ“ The Puppetry Institute Β· Capitola Β· See listing

Important News from The Puppetry Institute Like many arts organizations, we’ve been navigating the realities of a challenging economic landscape. Running two separate locations has become increasingly difficult, and after a great deal of thought we’ve made the decision to move from our previous location and reopen our art school inside our MIDDLEOF space, unit D-06 in the Capitola Mall. While change is never easy, we truly believe this move creates something exciting. By bringing everything together under one roof, we’ll be able to continue offering our incredible workshops while also having enough space for our interactive puppetry installations, art gallery, and live performances. It allows us to create a home where imagination, education, and immersive art can exist side by side. These are difficult times for the arts, and organizations like ours are constantly finding creative ways to keep the magic alive. We believe this move will help ensure that we can continue sharing our unique brand of creativity, storytelling, and wonder with the Central Coast community we’re proud to call home for the past 10 years Thank you to everyone who has supported us through every chapter of this journey. Your encouragement, attendance, donations, and belief in what we do continue to make all of this possible. We’re excited for this next adventure and can’t wait to welcome you into this new chapter of The Puppetry Institute. Learn more about who we are and what we do please visit us Sept 4th from 4-7pm for a tour of our classroom and our magical 5000 sq ft

He spent 18 years with the band and signed several songs for The Gladiators, hits and classics like Chatty Chatty Mouth, Richman Poorman, On The Other Side, Can You Imagine How I Feel, Let Jah Be Praised, One Love, Untrue Girl, and more. Clinton Fearon was also a session musician for different studios in Jamaica, including with producers Coxsone Dodd at Studio One and Lee β€˜Scratch’ Perry’s at Black Ark, but also at Channel One, Aquarius, Harry J, Randy’s, etc. In these studios, Clinton Fearon composed some everlasting bass lines for well-known artists like Yabby You, Jimmy Riley, Max Romeo, Junior Byles and many others. Him and some of the musicians of The Gladiators took advantage of the extra time remaining on their visa, at the end of the US tour, to start a band in the Northwest: The Defenders. The band built a nice following in the area until they split after five years. And finally Clinton Fearon formed his own band in the mid 90s with local musicians in Seattle: Clinton Fearon and The Boogie Brown Band. Stage Presence for Adult Dancers: From Technique to Connection

πŸ“ Motion Pacific at the London Nelson Community Center
πŸ•’ 6:30 PM – 7:45 PM Β· $15

Have you ever learned choreography but felt unsure how to make it come alive in performance? This course with Mara Frey at Motion Pacific is designed for beginning adult dancers who want to feel more confident, expressive, and comfortable being seen. Stage presence isn't about being the most technically advanced dancer in the room, it's about connecting with the music, communicating intention, and engaging your audience. Through guided exercises, movement exploration, and performance practice, you'll learn how posture, focus, emotional expression, and audience connection can transform the way you dance. In a supportive and encouraging environment, students will explore: building confidence and reducing performance anxiety, using focus, posture, and energy to command attention, expressing emotion and intention through movement, connecting authentically with an audience, recovering gracefully from mistakes during performance, and developing a personal performance style. This class is open to dancers of all styles and requires no prior performance experience. Whether you dream of performing on stage, social dancing with more confidence, or simply bringing greater expression to your movement, you'll leave with practical tools to help your dancing feel more engaging, intentional, and alive. By the end of the course, participants will perform a short dance phrase and gain skills they can apply to any dance style or performance opportunity. What to bring: comfortable dance attire, water, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone in a supportive setting.
