Celebrate California Biodiversity Day by heading to the visitor center at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve for a free party! Explore nature exhibits in the Visitor Center, including the debut of β€œWater Stories,” a new traveling exhibit Help collect gumplant seeds for restoration projects Become a community scientist and participate in the β€œFind 30 Species Challenge” on iNaturalist Hike the trails and discover Elkhorn Slough’s diverse habitats Watch short films about wildlife, conservation, and community Meet local environmental and community organizations Food trucks from Tacos Pacheco, McKayla Catering, and Colores Climbing + Coffee Locals Love: The interactive exhibits, free binocular rentals for birding, and the short accessible overlook path that leads directly to prime sea otter and pelican viewing spots along five miles of pristine coastal trails. First Timers Miss: The open education research lab where you can see active slough studies, and the stationary overlook scopes that are dialed into distant wildlife to view. Insights: Dress for a hot sunny day with sun protection and light pants instead of shorts, but bring extra layers in anticipation of cold and wet. Use a small daypack to carry extra clothes, money for the food trucks, your sunscreen, and bug spray. Skip the sandals or open toe shoes in case you want to explore or try out that free climbing wall!
