Royal Gem
It was once a turkey farm, although the turkeys never left Royal Oaks. More importantly, it was the first park in the County of Monterey system when it opened in 1966, leading the way to the recreational gems across the county we all enjoy today. Royal Oaks Park marks its 60th anniversary with a party featuring more than a dozen food trucks, a disc golf tournament and other festivities. The 122-acre park offers various amenities, including a softball field, playground equipment, hiking trails and more. Word is County Supervisor Glenn Church has challenged Chief of Parks Bryan Flores to a competitive horseshoe match. See how it all plays out. [EC] 8am-7pm (disc golf tournament begins at 9am) Saturday, Sept. 12. Royal Oaks Park, 537 Maher Road, Royal Oaks. Free. (831) 755-4895, bit.ly/RoyalOaksPark.
