Fences By August Wilson Directed by Susan Dalian August Wilson joins the Santa Cruz Shakespeare stage for the first time in 45 years. Fences is the perfect offering, wonderfully in line with the Santa Cruz Shakespeare season’s theme: Till Death Do Us Part. Troy Maxson is one of Wilson’s great creations; Shakespearean in scope; a wordsmith and brilliant storyteller. He has survived the terrible trauma of his past and built himself a good life. But the backbone of that life, the spine that keeps it standing strong, is his wife Rose. Santa Cruz is known near and far for its surfing legacy, but there is another water sport that finds a niche on our coast, with a similarly devoted following. Sailboats dot the waves almost as frequently as surf boards here, benefiting from the tides and currents that make this beach town so special. So it is no surprise that the Santa Cruz Harbor and the Santa Cruz Yacht Club have become a nexus for the sailing community, with a calendar packed with activities and a weekly regatta, which brings out even the biggest land lover to admire the race every Wednesday.

Go explore the harbor shops, restaurants and experiences with very little car traffic! Passengers may be picked up and dropped off at the following locations: X1 Gate (northeast harbor) AA Dock (southwest harbor) Launch Ramp (southeast harbor) Please visit the Port District’s website to view the map for all water taxi pick-up and drop-off locations in the harbor. Visitor parking is available for water taxi passengers in the north harbor near X Dock.

On this 2.5 mile hike, be prepared to walk on uneven surfaces, with many stops to view the many birds, plants, and scenery along the way. You will help each other spot and identify birds! This nighttime experience will bring you a magical and immersive perspective on the ancient forest at Roaring Camp. During the 0.8-mile loop walk, you will view 26 unique, lighted lanterns, hung approximately 50 feet above the ground. The lanterns were crafted by local artists including Anna Bobisuthi, Roaring Camp’s resident blacksmith, and Chris Butler, who also created the lighting design for Sequoias at Night. Tickets are available at the link in the orange button above. Kids under two enter for free. Roaring Camp’s food services and gift shop will be open.

Docent-led tours of the Elkhorn Slough Reserve are every Saturday AND Sunday, at 10 am and 11 am. Tours are on a first-come, first-serve basis – visitors may sign up at the Visitor Center front desk, or call ahead the morning of using the phone number (831) 728-2822. The Docent will craft a walk that meets the groups needs and abilities.

Join the MAH and Davenport Resource Center for a day of "AWE" at Big Basin Redwoods State Park. This event sponsored by California State Parks gives participants access to park interpreters, art making materials, historical background on Big Basin and Davenport, as well as an awe-inspiring day in nature. Participants will receive free parking passes and be greeted by MAH and Big Basin State Park staff where they will be oriented to Big Basin's history and ecological significance. MAH Executive Director will then lead participants in a brief awe walk, where participants will receive workbooks and materials to create their own field journals. Participants will be encouraged to create poetry, photograph, record found sounds, paint, or draw what inspires them, and be provided an opportunity to include their work in a shared online publication following the event. This opportunity is open to all ages and is perfect for multigenerational families, students interested in the intersection of art and ecology, or couples looking to connect with nature. Limited to 20 individuals. Note: We require a minimal $5 donation to reserve your spot in this event. Funds will be donated to Davenport Resource Center. *Please plan accordingly - arrive promptly, dress for the weather, and bring plenty of water and an open mind!
